Military air strikes killed 47 and injured 20 militants Friday in North Sinai, during one of the biggest military operations in the region in months, according to Reuters. Apache helicopters targeted jihadists from the "Wilayet Sinai" group, which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS), the ultra-hardline militants who have seized swathes of Syria and western Iraq. Security sources said, the air strikes targeted a militants' hideout in Sheikh Zuweid, where the group was planning for future attacks on security forces, adding that 47 were killed and 20 were arrested. "Wilayet Sinai" has claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks in Arish, North Sinai which left dozens dead and hundreds injured, January 29.
