Zamalek SC will host Al-Ahly in the 109th league Cairo derby Thursday at June 30 stadium. Zamalek will enter the match with 40 points from 17 games, looking to keep his winning streak in the league by beating its historical rival Al-Ahly. Since 2007, Zamalek have failed to beat Al Ahly in 19 encounters in all competitions. Al-Ahly also seeks to win this game to restore its confidence, after it has lost 16 points from two losses and five draws this season. The two teams played 108 derby games in the league; Al-Ahly won 38, Zamalek won in 25, and 45 games ended in draw. Their first derby match ever played in the league ended in draw in December 1948. The last game was in June 2014, when Al-Ahly won 1-0 with an own-goal scored by Zamalek midfielder Ahmed Tawfik. Legendary striker, Hossam Hassan is the top scorer of the league Cairo derby games with nine goals. He scored five goals wearing Al-Ahly's shirt and other four goals for Zamalek. Despite the decline of Al-Ahly's performance and Zamalek's current developing performance during this season, the derby of Cairo remains a special case that no one can predicts its result.
