Egypt beat Botswana 2-0 in their 2012 London Olympic Games qualifier first leg match in Petro Sport Stadium. Abeer Anwar reports In this, the first match of the qualifers to the Games, the Olympic team was not in form after a long layoff due to the revolution but they soon pulled themselves together to score two unanswered goals, by Hesham Mohamed in the 31st minute and Marawan Mohsen on the 77th. The Olympians thus made up somewhat for the country's loss to South Africa in the qualifiers for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Botswana, meanwhile, did have better luck in the ACN qualifiers when they became the first team to advance to the tournament. Returning to the Olympic team: "The boys should not become over-confident," Hani , Egypt's Olympic team coach, said. "We still have a difficult job in the second leg and we should not forget what happened in 1979 when Egypt's youth team beat Ethiopia 5-0 but lost by the same number of goals in the second leg. "We should fight and play bravely to have the upper hand especially that we will play the second game away." The second leg match will be held on the 8 April.
