Elseesy, Alia Bassioni, Heba Abu El Ella, Jean-Luc Marchina, Xavier Puigmartí. It is the second edition of Menawwareen - previously part of Noubar project (2004) - a group exhibition exploring and experimenting with, as the title suggests, the notion of light. The figurative and abstract compositions of five artists, Egyptians and foreigners, using simple materials such as paper, glass, copper and wood, recall the tradition of lanterns, strung up in the city squares and across the streets during the festivity, and recreate the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan (4- 30 May).

Tahrir Cultural Centre (TCC) AUC Tahrir Square Future and Legacy Galleries “Ocean”, paintings by Israa El-Naggar (closing 14 May). Margo Veillon Gallery Portrait painter Omar El Fayoumi combines the Fayoum style of painting, the modern term for a type of realistic portrait painted on wood and attached to mummies from Roman Egypt, with modern painting techniques and colours. His portraits have an ancient, soulful look yet are set in modern settings such as cafes and coffee houses. They take you straight to the heart of Egypt (closing 14 May).
