Super TP Mazembe
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 24 - 02 - 2016

Two goals by the Ghanaian Daniel Nii Adjei allowed TP Mazembe to overcome Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia 2-1 in Lubumbashi for their third CAF Super Cup.
Adjei put his team in the lead with his first goal on the 19th minute of the first half and he doubled it on the 45th minute with a second whilst Mohamed Msakni pulled one back for the Tunisians on the stroke of half time.
It was the third time for Mazembe to win the Super Cup after 2009 and 2010 as the winners of the CAF Champions League against Etoile du Sahel, the winner of the second-tier continental club championship, the CAF Confederation Cup.
Mazembe were better and controlled the match in the first half but Sahel took charge in the second but all their efforts to equalise proved futile as Mazembe secured their victory earlier.
Ridha Jeddi, Etoile du Sahel's assistant coach, told the press that he wanted to congratulate TP Mazembe on the victory. “It was a tough match. We were in control of possession in the early stages, but we made two serious mistakes which cost us. We paid the price for the defensive blunders especially with our ball distribution, and that resulted in the two goals for Mazembe. We were able to reduce the deficit during the first half, which was positive, and we tried to be more effective in the second half.
“Also the injury of Rami Bedoui in the first half affected our stability. We had to push Alaya Brigui to the right back and it affected our attacking options. We had a good opportunity in the second half to draw level but the Mazembe goalie pulled a superb save to deny us the equaliser. It was almost a goal and it was unfortunate the ball did not go through. We apologise to our fans and all Tunisians for disappointing them.”
Hubert Velud, TP Mazembe's head coach, said, “I'm very happy we have won another continental title. Every title is difficult to win. We were on a good level. In the second half, we were better and we used the spaces in the middle. We were realistic and solid in the first half and managed to score two goals. It is a good result taken into consideration that we had little time to prepare for the game.”
