‘Very poor coach' is staying
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 20 - 10 - 2015

Even the winning of the local double for the White Knights did not prevent Mortada Mansour from criticising his club's veteran coach Jesualdo Ferreira publicly. The ever controversial president described the Portuguese Ferreira as a poor coach who was not good enough to manage his club after they lost the Egyptian Super Cup 3-2 at the hands of their fiercest rivals Ahly in a thrilling encounter last week that could have ended another way had Kahraba doubled his team's lead from the spot kick when it was 1-0 for Zamalek.
However, Ekrami's save flipped the gamed on its head as Abdullah Al-Said showed Kahraba how to do it as he scored two times from the spot kick before Zamalek's former star Mo'men Zakaria added a third for his team which meant that Kahraba's late consolation goal meant little.
Mansour did not pay much attention to the decisive penalty miss and went on to say that he was the one who won the local double for the club and that Ferreira knows nothing about football and that he was the main reason his club lost the Super Cup after playing the unfit Mohamed Ibrahim.
Mortada said that Ferreira had to leave the club as soon as possible and that he will add two persons to the coaching staff, with them granted full authority on the team selection in a bid to push Ferreira to demand to leave the club.
Ferreira on the other hand refused to leave and declined questions about what Mansour said, demanding an apology from the controversial president. A few weeks ago Mortada was over the moon after his club defeated Ahly in the final of the Egyptian Cup and praised Ferreira for winning the league and the cup and said that the Portuguese coach managed to get the best out of his world class squad. However, all of a sudden the tone of the president changed after the loss of the Super Cup, claiming the players hate Ferreira and that Hamoudi and star man Ayman Hefni both complained several times of being treated badly by Ferreira in addition to several other players.
Mortada said that he himself would do a better job than Ferreira as believes that losing the Super Cup and bowing out of the semis of the African Confederation Cup ruined the season.
After days of public clashes between the two, Mortada finally came out announcing that Ferreira will be staying at the club after admitting his mistakes in the Super Cup and that they agreed on several important issues that will be announced later on. Reports indicate that Mansour will sack Ferreira if he loses any point from his first three games in the league that starts in less than a week.
Club captain Hazem Emam and star man Kahraba, alongside Omar Gaber, Mohamed Khalifa, Ahmed Al-Shenawi anda few others welcomed the news that their coach will be staying and even bought him a cake to celebrate with him on Sunday after Mortada made the announcement. Obviously Hamoudi and Hefni did not take part in the celebrations.
Football pundits and players will always agree that there is no coach in the world loved by all his team members. So for now Ferreira will be staying and resuming business starting this week when he faces Wadi Degla in their first league game of the new season.
