Al Masar gallery presents "Mes Voyages", exhibition showcasing 40 rare signed drawings from the 40's to 80's by late artist Tahia Halimrepresenting her private collection. The collection depicts the artist's memories documented on paper during her visits to various countries including Paris, London, Stockholm, Belgrade, and Nubia in South Egypt. In the 1940's, her paintings focused on depicting gatherings, landscapes and still life. She also paid attention to the theme of motherhood and became more involved in Egyptian folkloric art. Though originally from an aristocratic family from Upper Egypt, Halim focused on Nubians and their daily lives in many of her drawings. In this exhibition, she used various art media including gouache, pen, and ink. The paintings reflect little attention to details. Born in Aswan, Egypt, in 1919, Halim was a professional artist since the 1930's making painting her full-time career. Her works are spontaneous and poetic. She is skillful in her mixture of colours and their distribution, creating touches of intensity and boldness. Al Masar gallery exhibited a collection of paintings by Halim in a previous October 2008 exhibition titled “Nostalgia”. Halim exhibited both collectively and individually since 1942. Some of the most notable group shows she participated in were the 1952 and 1960 Venice Biennales, and biennales in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Alexandria, Egypt. Hanan (compassion), the painting for which she won a prize in 1958, is part of the acquisitions of the New York Guggenheim Museum in addition to some of her other paintings. Her works are also on permanent display at the Egyptian Modern Art Museum in Cairo, the Fine Arts Museum in Alexandria, the Modern Art Museum in Stockholm and in embassies and private collections worldwide. The exhibition runs through 10 January.
