After growing up between France and Tunisia, Nawel Ben Kraiem started to perform as a singer in Paris within Cirrus group. In 2009 she released her first album "Mama Please" and was rewarded by the Monte Carlo International Radio price (RFI). After an international tour with orange blossomshe decided to go on her own project. This project made use of her voice and many musical influences (pop, world, electronic music), a mix of different languages (Arabic, French and English) and original rhythms. Nawel has also worked with the director Tony Gatlif, singing and acting in one of his movies. She is now working on her first album. Fri 26, 9pm: Sanaa moussa (Palestine). Sanaa Moussa was born in the Palestinian village Deir Al-Asad in the Galilee, her father is well known musician and singer who professed at singing folkloric songs of Syria, Egypt and Iraq. That was the trigger for Sanaa's connection to classic Arabic music and in particular the Palestinian folk. Sanaa's songs can be categorized under Classic genre, as she strives to preserve folkloric singing and pass it on across generations through her musical performance “Ishraq”. Ishraq is a musical performance embodying a collection of songs passed on by generations of Palestinian women though the decades. These songs are distinct in their form and content as they are expressive monologues depicting important moments of Palestinian history as well as emotions relating to daily life from the perspective of Palestinian women. In 2003 she received training and performed and Oriental Music Center. In 2004, she started performing classic and folkloric songs in several festival in the Arab World and Europe. She started a band in 2008 and called it “Naw Athar”. The band presents folkloric songs in new arrangements while maintaining their oriental flavor.
Thur 1, 9pm: Baidar Al Basri (Iraq). Baidar Al Basri was born in Baghdad and now lives in Netherlands. She studied ballet, opera and singing in Syria, in addition to opera singing at the Royal Conservatoire in Netherlands. She won first place in the Super Star competition held online by the Iraqi University. Baidar sings in Arabic, Dutch and French. She participated in numerous operas and musicals her most recently she presented wasthe soloist for the European musical Stabat Mater is a 2008 piece by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. This musical was shown several times. Baidar was honored by the youth of the Iraqi diaspora in Holand and Anqaa Iraqi International organization.
