Mido tells Zamalek fans not to worry despite another slump Mido believes Zamalek only need to regain confidence to get back on track following a series of disappointing Egyptian Premier League games
Mido called on Zamalek fans not to worry over the team's chances of advancing to the final phase of the Egyptian Premier League after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Talae El-Gaish on Thursday. The Cairo giants extended their winless run in the premier domestic competition, which they had last won in 2004, to four matches following another lackluster display which lacked spark and imagination. They failed to translate superior possession into scoring chances, with the absence of suspended playmaker Mohamed Ibrahim making their mission to unlock a tight defence more difficult. “I want to tell the Zamalek fans: do not worry,” rookie coach Mido, who steered the White Knights to a place in the African Champions League group stage with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Zambia's Nkana FC, said in a television interview. “Just one league win will give us confidence and then further victories will follow, I'm sure of that. “We still have two matches in hand. If we win both, we will move second in the table.” In the competition's new two-group format, the winners and runners-up of both groups will advance to a mini-league phase to determine the champion. Zamalek are sixth in Group B with 16 points from 11 matches. Leaders Petrojet have 25 from 13 and Ismaily have 20 from 12.
