Zamalek coach extols players for Champions League qualification The Cairo giants are Egypt's only representative in the prestigious tournament after Ahly were eliminated by Libya's Ahly Benghazi
Zamalek coach Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' has expressed his pleasure at beating Zambian side Nkana 5-0 in the second leg of the CAF Champions League round of 16 on Sunday. The Cairo giants are Egypt's only representative left in the prestigious tournament after Ahly were eliminated on Saturday after losing 3-2 at home to Libya's Ahly Benghazi. "I am happy for the big result over Nkana and reaching the quarterfinals," Mido was quoted as saying on the club's official website after the game. "The players performed well throughout the game," he added. "We didn't pay attention to Ahly's elimination from the tournament and only concentrated on the Nkana game." Zamalek will face Talae El-Gaish on the 15th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on 5 April. The Whites are seventh in Group B with 15 points. "We will work hard to prepare the players for the Premier League games and Champions League group stage." The Champions League group stage draw will be held on Tuesday at the CAF headquarter in Egypt. Gaber's future uncertain Zamalek attacking midfielder Omar Gaber, who scored the third goal in the 5-0 win over Nkana, has revealed that he will leave the team at the end of the season. "I will leave Zamalek by the end of the season as I am very sad at the fans attitude towards me and the technical staff always criticising me during training," Gaber said after the game. The coach said that Gaber would stay with team despite his announcement as he took his decision due to personal reasons. "I will hold a meeting with the player to convince him to retreat his decision so I can confirm that he won't leave the club," Mido concluded.
