Zamalek's Mido slams Egypt security for teargassing fans Zamalek's coach believes if he had fans to show support his team would have scored more goals in the first leg of the last 32 in the CAF Champions League on Saturday
Zamalek coach Ahmed Hossam "Mido" has expressed his anger at the Egypt police after they prevented the Whites' fans from attending an African Champions League game against Angola's Kabuscorp on Saturday. Authorities imposed an indefinite crowd ban after fan trouble that followed Ahly's 3-2 victory over Sfaxien in the African Super Cup last month. Zamalek secured a 1-0 victory at home to Angola's Kabuscorp in the first leg of the African Champions League Round 32. "I am angry for not allowing Zamalek fans attending the game," Zamalek coach told reporters after the game. "If I have supporters in stadium I would score three to four goals that will help Zamalek in the away game," he added. The White Knights supporters vowed to defy the crowd ban in the last 32 first-leg game against Kabuscorp but were tear-gassed by police, who attempted to disperse them less than an hour before kick-off. "I ask Egypt security to fine Ahly fans only for their misconduct, not all Egyptian fans," Mido added. On the pitch, Mahmoud Fathallah gave Zamalek an unconvincing 1-0 home win over Kabuscorp, whose massed ranks at the back kept their illustrious opponents at bay for long spells of the Champions League last 32 first-leg. "I will ask the club's management to extend Fathallah's contract for two seasons if he continues in his superb performance," Mido said. The 32-year-old Fathallah's contract with Zamalek runs out at the end of the season.
