Egypt U-23s begin first training camp under El-Badry Fifty-nine players attending training camp as Hossam El-Badry seeks to build squad for 2015 CAF Championship qualifiers
The Egyptian under-23 squad began a training camp on Monday in preparation for the 2015 CAF Championship qualifiers. On Saturday, El-Badry announced a 59-man squad for the camp - the first since he took charge in November 2013. The players showed great enthusiasm in their first training session on Tuesday, state news agency MENA reported. The coach said every player would be assessed carefully and insisted the door would remain open for every player who proves his worth, MENA added. According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) website, El-Badry divided the 59-man squad into two groups. Thirty-five players will attend the camp from 17 until 19 February. Some players will then be selected to stay for the rest of the camp. A second group of 24 players will join the camp from 19 February until the end. Badry, 53, is contracted to lead the team until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Egypt qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London for the first time in 20 years, but were knocked in the quarterfinal after slumping to a 3-0 defeat to Japan under former coach Hany Ramzy. Upon his appointment, El-Badry vowed to build a new generation of skilled players to aid the senior team in their bid to reach the 2018 World Cup. El-Badry previously led Ahly to Egyptian Premier League and African Champion League titles. He then coached Libya's Ahly, but left the country recently over security concerns in Tripoli.
