Zamalek need to be more clinical despite giving Mido a winning start by beating Minya 1-0 in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday, the rookie coach said.
Burly striker Ahmed Ali scored on the hour mark to break down the dogged defence of promoted Minya and prompt Mido to breathe a sigh of relief as he embarks on a managerial career after retiring from professional football last summer.
"We have learned some lessons today. We should take advantage of our chances and kill off such games early on," the 30-year-old, who replaced the sacked Helmi Toulan, told the post-match news conference.
"We wasted a lot of goalscoring opportunities, but I'm nevertheless pleased with our performance today," he added.
Zamalek, who drew with Haras El-Hodoud in their previous game but the full three points were eventually awarded to their opponents after the Cairo giants' fans defied a crowd ban, moved to third place in Group B with 10 points, three behind second-placed Ismaily.
Petrojet lead Ismaily on goal difference but have played a game more.
