FACTBOX: Career highlights of Mido Ahram Online remembers the career of Egypt's former striker Mido, one of the best Egyptian players who had a successful football career in European leagues
INTERNATIONAL CAREER: Mido made his debut with Egypt's national football team in 2001. Despite having a successful club-career, he failed to realise his potential at the international level, though, and was absent during Egypt's African Cup of Nations triumphs in 2008 and 2010. He was part of their squad in 2006 but missed the final victory over the Ivory Coast in Cairo, following an infamous touchline altercation with then-coach Hassan Shehata. Titles: African Cup of Nations (CAN) title in 2006 CLUB CAREER: Zamalek: The former attacker started his football career through the youth ranks of Cairo's Zamalek in 1999. He made his league debut on 22 May 2000 in a 0–0 draw against Al Qanah. Gent: In 2000 and only at the age of 17, Mido began his European adventure by joining Belgian club Gent for one season Ajax: After having a successful stint in Belgium, Mido Joined Dutch giants Ajax on a five-year contract Titles: League title 2001/2002 season Cup title 2001/2002 season Super Cup 2001/2002 season Celta Vigo In March 2003, Mido joined Spainsh club Celta Vigo on loan. He stayed there for three months before returning to Ajax. Marseille In the summer of 2003, he Joined French club Marseille on a permanent basis AS Roma In the summer of 2004, Mido joined Italian giants Roma on a five-year contract Tottenham Hotspur In January 2005, he joined English Premier league club Tottenham Hotspur on a 18-month loan deal. Despite returning to Roma in May 2006, Mido rejoined Tottenham on a permanent basis in August of the same year. Middlesbrough Mido joined Middlesbrough on a four-year contract on August 2007 Wigan Athletic He was sent on loan on a six-month loan deal for Wigan Athletic on January 2009 Zamalek In August 2009, Mido joined home club Zamalek on one season loan deal West Ham United In February 2010, Mido departed Zamalek to join West Ham United on loan Back to Ajax In September 2010, he rejoined Dutch club Ajax on a one-year loan contract Second return to Zamalek In January 2011, Mido suddenly rejoined Zamalek on a permanent basis after signing a 3.5-year contract He remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the season as he wasn't registered with the team due to an administrative error Barnsley In June 2012, Mido departed Zamalek to join English Championship club Barnsley. He stayed there for six months before departing and then announcing his retirement after being without a club for months.
