Art Alert: CIC to host second Cairo Photo Slide Jam
The Contemporary Image Collection will host the second Cairo Photo Slide Jam on 23 January, an initiative that aims to provide an open and intercultural platform for discussions about photography
Published in Ahram Online on 15 - 01 - 2014

The brainchild of Egyptian-British photographer Laura El-Tantawy, the Cairo Photo Slide Jam is an initiative that seeks to promote photography from Egypt and explore contemporary trends and questions pertaining to the field of photography.
The "Jam" features a line-up of contemporary photographers from Egypt and beyond, who are invited to show their work to their peers and the audience, as discussions tackle the ideas and aesthetics behind the work.
"Casual, simple and easy going, our platform brings local and international photographers together to discuss everything photography," reads the press release.
Cairo Photo Slide Jam will be held for the second time at the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) headquarters in downtown Cairo on Thursday 23 January. Coinciding with the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution, the work presented will revolve around the political transformation that has unfolded in Egypt since 2011. The event is curated by Amr Salahuddien.
The first edition of the Cairo Photo Slide Jam was held at Photopia on 14 December 2013. The event featured a group of local and international photographers; Omnia Arfin, David Degner, Kismet El Sayed, Mosa'ab El Shamy, Ed Giles, Eman Helal, Anna Krukowska, and Amanda Mustard.
