Preview: Depleted Ahly face Smouha in Egyptian league Defending champions Ahly will have to do without five key players when they take on Smouha in Saturday's Egyptian Premier League game
Ahly scraped an unconvincing 2-0 victory over El-Entag El-Harby in their Egyptian Premier League opener but they are likely to face a sterner test against Smouha on Saturday, given their mounting injury problems. The Red Devils will have to do without five key players when they face Alexandria-based club Smouha, who also claimed an opening victory after defeating Ghazl El-Mahalla 1-0. Ahly's doctor Ehab Ali told the club website that midfielder Hossam Ashour and defenders Rami Rabea, Sayed Moawad and Sherif Abdel-Fadil have been ruled out of the game. "They still need more time to recover but they will join training again after the Smouha game," Ali added. Egyptian international striker Emad Meteb is also out, having suffered a hamstring injury that will sidelined him for at least six weeks. Midfielder Shehab Ahmed is doubtful due to flu. However, coach Mohamed Youssef will be boosted by the return of in-form midfielder Ahmed Fathi, who missed the league opener against El-Entag. A depleted Ahly team relied on a second-string team in their opening match, with the likes of youngster Amr Gamal, midfielder Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan and Ahmed "Manga" Nabil leaving their mark. In other matches, Group A leaders Maqassa, who collected four points from two matches, face El-Entag while Arab Contractors, who also have four points, play stuttering Ittihad of Alexandria. ENPPI take on Ghazl El-Mahalla, promoted Minya face Petrojet and Dakhleya play Gouna.
