Harras El-Hodoud leapfrogged Ahly into the Egyptian Premier League summit after beating struggling Alexandria neighbours Smouha 2-1 on Tuesday. Tough-tackling midfielder Mohamed Halim gave El-Hodoud the lead after 12 minutes but Ghanaian striker Samuel Affum brought Smouha level in the 24th minute. Veteran forward Ahmed Eid struck with 15 minutes remaining to give El-Hodoud a precious victory that lifted them to the top of the league with 16 points. Defending champions Ahly, who lie second with 14 points, had their game against bitter foes Ismaily postponed until 26 December for security reasons. In other matches, El-Entag El-Harby and Ghazl El-Mahalla played out goalless draws with Petrojet and Ittihad of Alexandria, respectively.
