Minister of defence and armed forces chief General Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is to address the nation at 9pm. His speech will be broadcast on state TV.
General El-Sisi is also deputy prime minister.
The speech comes on a day in which a suicide attack on a bus carying soldiers in North Sinai left 11 soldiers dead and 37 injured.
