Abdel-Zaher may be banned from Egypt for Rabaa gesture: Official The under-fire Ahly striker may never represent Egypt again after making the pro-Morsi gesture at a game
Ahly striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher may be banned for life from representing Egypt after making the four-fingered Rabaa solidarity sign at the African Champions League final, an Egyptian FA board member said. "What he did is totally wrong. He stirred controversy and angered a lot of people. We are still debating but the Egyptian FA may ban him from representing the national team," Khaled Latif told a sports programme on Thursday. The 28-year-old player made the gesture, associated with the violent dispersal of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi at the Rabaa protest camp, after scoring the second goal against the Orlando Pirates in the final last Sunday. Ahly have decided to suspend him, to deprive him of the Champions League bonus, and to put him up for sale in January. Abdel-Zaher, who was bought by Ahly last summer from ENPPI, featured in 10 games for the Pharaohs, scoring two goals.
