Art Alert: Austrian piano master to perform at Manasterly Palace
The upcoming monthly concert by the International Music Centre, on Sunday 17 November, features internationally-acclaimed pianist Gottlieb Wallisch
Published in Ahram Online on 12 - 11 - 2013

On Sunday 17 November, Austrian piano virtuoso Gottlieb Wallisch will perform works by Bach, Bartók, Haydn, Schumann and Liszt at the Manasterly Palace, home to the concerts organised by the International Music Centre (IMC).
Since its founding in 2002, the IMC has presented numerous world class pianists as well as provided a platform for Egyptian musicians. The IMC's activities are best described by its artistic director, Egyptian internationally-renowned pianist Ramzi Yassa. In the centre's programme notes Yassa says: "Meeting the Masters at Carnegie Hall or Théâtre des Champs-Elysées is a privilege. To witness their performance at Manasterly is a unique experience."
Gottlieb Wallisch was admitted at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts at the age of six, and pursued his education in Berlin with Pascal Devoyon then in Paris with Jacques Rouvier. Winner of numerous international piano competitions, Wallisch's awards include the First Prize and the Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich at the Stravinsky Awards (USA).
Wallisch has performed across the globe -- at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall to name but a few -- with a large number of internationally-renowned orchestras: the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, among many others.
He cooperated with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Dennis Russell Davies, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Sir Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood, and participated in a variety of music festivals.
Last year, Wallisch signed to the British recording company LINN records, to release his CD album Mozart in Vienna.
In Cairo, Wallisch will perform J S Bach's Partita No.1 in B-flat major, Bartók's Suite, Op.14, Haydn's Sonata No. 59 in E-flat major, Schumann's Blumenstück, Op. 19 and Impromptus on a Theme of Clara Wieck, Op. 5, Liszt's Variations on "Weinen, Klagenfurt, Sorgen, Zagen" by Bach.
