Art Alert: Cairo Piano Trio to open Manasterly Palace new season
On Sunday 27 October, the International Music Centre launches its activities at the Manasterly Palace with a concert by Cairo Piano Trio performing works by Mozart and Beethoven
Published in Ahram Online on 22 - 10 - 2013

The historic Manasterly Palace will host on Sunday 27 October yet another classical music concert offered by the International Music Centre (IMC), a tradition established over a decade ago.
Opening the centre's 2013-2014 music season, the upcoming concert will feature the Cairo Piano Trio, with Mohamed Saleh on piano, Mohamed Salah Mahmoud on cello and Yasser Ghonem on violin.
The trio will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonata for Piano and Violin Op.12 no. 1 in D major; Sonata for Piano and Violin Op.12 no. 2 in A major; variations for cello and piano in G major on Handel's See, The Conquering Hero Comes, WoO 45; and seven variations in E flat major for Cello and Piano based on "Bei Mannern, welche Liebe fuhlen" from Mozart's Magic Flute, WoO 46.
Since its founding in 2002, the IMC has presented many world class pianists, such as the French-Cypriot Cyprien Katsaris, the French-Iranian Nima Sarkechik, Anastasia Terenkova from Moscow, Yuan Sheng and Wang Jue from China, Kim Youngho from South Korea, Andrei Gavrilov from Russia, along with Britain's Cropper Welsh Roscoe Trio, and a multitude of other talents.
The IMC also provides a platform for Egyptian artists, such as pianists Mohamed Shams and Magda Emara, cellist Hassan Moataz, soloists from the Cairo Opera Company, the Cairo Celebration Choir, Egyptian music ensembles and conductors such as Ahmed El-Saedi, Nayer Nagui, Hisham Gabr, Sherif Mohie Eldin and Nader Abbassi, among others.
The IMC's activities are best described by the Egyptian internationally-renowned pianist -- who is also the centre's artistic director -- Ramzi Yassa. In the centre's programme notes Yassa says: "Meeting the Masters at Carnegie Hall or Théâtre des Champs-Elysées is a privilege. To witness their performance at Manasterly is a unique experience."
