Sunday 10 November
Artist Talk: Ali Abdel Mohsen in conversation with Maie Yanni at Mashrabia Gallery, 6pm
Mashrabia Gallery will host a conversation with emerging artist Ali Abdel Mohsen about his currenly showcased solo collection, dubbed, "This is a Dream Come True." Abdel Mohsen will discuss with British-born Lebanese artist and curator Maei Yanni the concepts behind his latest exhibitionat the downtown gallery, where his work is displayed until 14 November.

Exhibition opening: "From Verdi's Villa to Cairo" at the Italian Cultural Centre, 7pm
"From Verdi's Villa to Cairo: A Journey Never Completed" is a compilation of photographs by artist Sandro Vannini revealing fragments from Verdi's life in Sant'Agata, along with many documents describing the composer's work on the opera Aida. The exhibition was previously displayed at the Cairo Opera House, 22-27 October, as part of a presentation of Verdi to Egyptian audiences via a number of activities. The display will remain on show at the Italian Cultural Centre until 24 November. Read more here.

Tharthara Fawk Al-Nil film screening at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute, 7pm
Based on Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz's novel,Tharthara Fawk Al-Nil (Adrift on the Nile), the 1971 film, is set against the backdrop of the Six-Day War during Nasser's rule, follows a group of drug-induced meetings of frustrated Egyptians from various walks of life on a houseboat on the Nile.

Cairo Symphony Orchestra performs in Alexandria, 7pm
The Cairo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ahmed El-Saedi will perform Rimsky Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol op.34, Saint Saens' Africa Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra op.89, and Brahms' Hungarian Dances. The piano soloist of the evening will be Laura Mikkola.

El-Ghouri Tanoura Group in Wekalet El-Ghouri, 7.30pm
The performance by El-Ghouri Dance Group is a traditional Sufi dance, full of colours and with vibrant music. The troupe performs every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in Wekalet El-Ghouri.

Taha Hussein: Rare photos and documents at Al-Sennary House
The exhibition organised by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina at Al-Sennary House (Beit Al-Sennary) displays a collection of previously unseen original documents to commemorate Taha Hussein, former dean of Arabic literature, on the 40th anniversary of his death. Read more about the exhibitionhere.

Arab Music Festival at the Cairo Opera House, 7pm
Among the many artists performing on this day will be Syrian singer and oud player Safwan Bahlawan. Other musicians will include Essam Mahmoud, singer and qanun player, Riham Abdel-Halim, and Rehab Metawaa. The performers will be accompanied by the Abdel-Halim Noweira Arab Music Ensemble, conducted by Salah Ghoubashi. Tuesday 12 November
Hara TV street theatre in Dandara Youth Centre in Qena, 5pm
Hara TV bring their latest interactive theatre piece, “Keep it Real, It All Comes Out in the Wash,” to Qena, playing several shows over the coming days, also in Nagaa Hamadi and other cities. Brainchild of Noon Creative Enterprise, Hara TV uses interactive theatre to address social issues and work with several communities around the country. Their last project addressed sexual harassment in interactive plays on Cairo's Metro. Read more here.

"Goodbye Lenin" film screening in Alexandria's El-Cabina, 7pm
Directed by Wolfgang Becker, this 2003 German production follows the story of a young man who must protect his mother from finding out that East Germany as she knows it is gone after reunification in 1990. So he sets up a East Germany-like reality in their flat (see trailer below).

Among the many artists performing on this day will be Ahmed Effat, Soma, Ayat Farouk and Khaled Selim. Thursday 14 November
Screening of Bollywood movie Dostana (Friendship), at Maulana Azad Centre, 4pm
Shot entirely in Miami, Florida, Dostana (Friendship) is a 2008 Indian romantic comedy, directed by Tarun Mansukhani and starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. The screening of the movie is part of the Maulana Azad Centre's regular Thursday screening series, under the auspices of cultural activities organised by the Indian Embassy in Egypt. Mashrou' Leila band on Cinema Rio's rooftop at 6pm and 9pm
Lebanese sensations Mashrou' Leila, arguably one of the most popular independent bands in the region, are on tour to promote their new hit album,"Raasuk," and their next stop is Alexandria. In their only Egyptian concert on the tour, Mashrou' Leila will perform two concerts back-to-back in a unique venue on top of Rio Cinema in Alexandria. Poetry Jam in Luxor Cultural Palace, 7pm
In an event organised by the Austrian Cultural Forum, three Egyptian artists meet counterparts from Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Together they will present their best writings and improvised works. The performance will include the artists playing with words and language, while entertaining listeners with quick, humorous as well as satirical texts.

Telepoetic and Abdalla Menawy in Bait El-Raseef at 8pm
Following a workshop organised by Eka3, an organisation dedicated to the promotion and support of independent music in the region, Telepoetic mix their electronic sound with Sufi oriented singing by Abdalla Minawy to produce a unique musical experience.

Mashrou3 Al-Mareekh (Mars Project) will bring an assortment of Egypt's most popular young musicians. The performers scheduled to take the stage from 2pm to 9pm include: Like Jelly, Safi and Band, Nadah El-Shazly, Deeb, Abyusif, Malak Makar and Band, BDF (Black Devils Family), Rami Boraie, NoTalents, Khalid Mansour, Farida El-Gueretly, Motaz Attalla, and Solasi Adwa2 Al-Masra7.

Exhibition opening: "The Children of Port Said 1956/2013" at Darb 1718, 7pm
The exhibition is a historical record of two tumultuous periods from Egyptian history, chronicled without the stifled analysis of academia or the sensationalism of the media. The display is a result of joint efforts between Al Rawi — Egypt's Heritage Review — and Darb 1718 Egyptian Contemporary Art and Culture Centre. The exhibition runs until 22 November.

Symphonic concert at the Cairo Opera House, 7pm
Cairo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of a Canadian conductor Kristian Alexander and with soloist Peter Olah will perform Maurice Ravel's Flute Concerto “Le Tombeau de Couperin," Jacques Ibert's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (1934), and Cesar Franck's Symphony in D minor. Olah, the flute soloist of the evening, is principal flute player of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. Recently he won first prize during the Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition held in New York, played at the Carnegie Hall. Read more here

Darwasha band in Falaki Theatre at 8pm
The progressive rock project Darwasha mixes rock, metal and oriental, creating a sound uniquely theirs. The band includes Mohamed Darwish on guitar, Ahmed El-Azazi on drums, Shady El-Husseiny on melodica, Mohamed Faisal on bass, Omar Zanaty on percussion and Ahmed Omran on oud. Guest appearances for the concert will include Salam Yosry, Sherine Abdou and Safi El-Din.

Piano recital at the International Music Centre, 8pm
Austrian pianist Gottlieb Wallisch will perform works by Bach, Bartok, Haydn, Schumann and Liszt. Wallisch has won several prestigious prizes at international piano competitions, including 1st prize at the Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich at the Stravinsky Awards (USA). During his career, Wallisch has performed with many leading international orchestras and cooperated with renowned conductors. Check Gottlieb Wallisch performing Schubert's Sonata in E minor in the video below.
