Mahatat to hold lectures on cinema and filmmaking in Damietta
Beginning 7 November, Mahatat for Contemporary Art will hold a series of theoretical lectures on cinema and filmmaking for emerging filmmakers in Damietta

A series of eight theoretical lectures will take place on Thursdays and Fridays beginning 7 November until the end of the month, at Makani in the city of Damietta.
Lectures are part of Makani's project titled 'Face to Face: Social media are older than the Internet,' organised in collaboration with Dahlia Refaat with the aim of reaching emerging filmmakers in Damietta.The series of lectures is supported by the British Council and Vrede Van Utrecht Community Arts Lab.
Several professionals will engage in discussions with participants about topics revolving around cinema and filmmaking, such as:
- How the different art forms benefit from each other
- Documentary, experimental and fiction films
- Script writing and cinematography
- Theory of editing or how to tell a story
- Film theory
Mahatat is a Cairo-based initiative for art in public space and community art. Its main goals are the accessibility of arts and decentralisation of contemporary art.
According to Mahatat's official press release, the initiative seeks to build on previous experiences in Cairo and Damietta and focus intensely on activities in Cairo's borderline areas and cities of the Nile Delta in the coming years.
Damietta (also referred to as Domyat), located around 200km north of Cairo, is a port and capital of the governorate Domyat.
Programme:
Lectures begin on Thursday 7 November and end on Friday 29 November
Thursdays: Between 5pm and 9pm.
Fridays: Between 4pm and 8pm (Domyat is not among the 14 governorates where curfew is imposed).
