Art Alert: Commemorative Taha Hussein museum programme for children
In memory of 40 years since the famed intellectual's death, Taha Hussein museum in Giza presents a special programme for children beginning 28 October
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 10 - 2013

In cooperation with the National Centre for Children's Culture, the Taha Hussein museum will launch a four-day artistic programme for children beginning on Monday, 28 October.
The programme, which will go from 10am to1pm each day, will include a tour of the museum, a screening of a documentary about the late novelist Taha Hussein, a drawing art workshop, and a seminar.
Taha Hussein, one of Egypt's most influential writers and a dominant Arab Renaissance figure, was born on 14 November 1889 in a village in the Minya Governorate and passed away on 28 October 1973 at his home in Giza. Although he became blind at the age of three, he studied at the Cairo University, where he received Masters and then a PhD in Arabic literature.
Hussein also obtained another masters degree from the University of Montpellier, and an additional PhD at the Sorbonne. Upon his return from France, he held numerous academic positions. His activities were paralleled by continuous writing of literary works.
A villa dedicated to biographical material commemorating Taha Hussein opened to the public in the early 1990s. It is located on 11 Taha Hussein Street, off of Pyramids street in Giza.
