CAF postpones Coton Sport Champions League game due to Cameroon ban
African governing body delays match for one week with hopes that international FIFA ban on Cameroon will soon be lifted
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 07 - 2013

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the Coton Sport-Sewe Sport game in the first round of the CAF Champions League group stage to 27 July, as Cameroon is currently banned from all competitions by FIFA.
According to local media, Coton Sport and Cameroon FA were notified by the CAF late on Wednesday that they were hoping to lift the FIFA ban and return to competition.
The world governing body banned Cameroon from all competitions on 4 July due to government interference in the country's football federation.
Cameroon's suspension followed a contested 19 June election in which Mohammed Iya was re-elected as federation head despite being under arrest. Iya may face trial for alleged financial mismanagement while in charge of the Cameroon Cotton Development Corporation, the company that finances the Coton Sport club.
FIFA stressed on Monday that Coton Sport isn't allowed to play in continental matches, and CAF has consequently decided to postpone the game.
A delegation from Cameroon travelled to the FIFA headquarters in Zurich on Thursday in order to solve the current crises and lift the ban.
