Egypt interim president addresses nation
Mansour vows to restore security and 'preserve the revolution' in first speech since his swearing-in on 4 July

Egypt's Interim President Adly Mansour addressed the nation late on Thursday in a speech celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1973 victory against Israel. The anniversary falls on the 10th day of the Muslim month of Ramadan, which is Friday.
Egyptians gave the world an "inspiring" lesson on the 10th of Ramadan and during the 25 January and 30 July revolutions, Mansour said.
"Egyptians made the impossible a reality," he added.
The 1973 Arab–Israeli War was fought from 6 to 25 October by a coalition of Arab states, led by Egypt and Syria, against Israel in order to regain territory under Israeli occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War.
Mansour hailed the legendary victory, which he said had impressed the entire world.
In his speech, the interim president pledged to restore security, preserve the revolution and work towards the state's development.
"We are going through a critical juncture in Egypt's history. Some want it to be a rise of chaos, violence and bloodshed ... and we want it to be a gateway to stability and consolidation of human rights," he said.
The 30 July revolution did not occur to demand better lives, but to restore Egypt's standing, Mansour stated.
Mansour was appointed interim president as part of a roadmap instated by the military and the opposition following the overthrow of elected president Mohamed Morsi after millions took to the streets demanding his ouster.
