Tolan replaces Brazilian Vieira as coach of Egypt's Zamalek Zamalek appoint Haras El-Hodoud coach Helmy Tolan as their new boss following the departure of Brazilian coach Jorvan Vieira
Zamalek have named Helmy Tolan as their new coach after Brazilian Jorvan Vieira opted not to renew his deal, the Cairo giants announced on Saturday. Vieira departed despite helping Zamalek make their best ever start to the Egyptian Premier League as they bid to end a nine-year wait for the prestigious title, citing the club's financial woes. The former Iraq boss left Cairo last month ahead of the massive anti-government rallies that ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. Tolan, an ex-Zamalek player, left El-Hodoud to take over at his former club. He will be tasked with leading the White Knights to the league title as they set to face arch rivals Ahly, Ismaily and ENPPI in the final phase despite media speculation that the competition might be called off due to the ongoing political stability. "I reached an agreement with Zamalek's management to take charge of the team as a replacement for Vieira," Tolan said on Zamalek's official website on Saturday. "All the members of the Zamalek technical staff will remain in their posts," he added. Tolan was an assistant to former Zamalek coach Otto Pfister from 1999 to 2002, during which Zamalek won several titles. He then had spells with Telecom Egypt, Masry and Haras El-Hodoud but failed to win any accolades.
