Egypt's President Morsi to address nation on Wednesday President Morsi will deliver televised speech on Wednesday, one week before planned anti-government demonstrations, state media reports without elaborating
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi will address the nation in a televised speech on Wednesday, state news agency MENA reported. No further details were given regarding the content of the president's scheduled address. Egypt is bracing for nationwide anti-government protests on 30 June, in which opposition forces will demand Morsi's ouster and snap presidential polls. Last Friday, hundreds of thousands of Islamist supporters of the president – who hails from Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood – staged counter-demonstrations in solidarity with Morsi's embattled presidency. Since late last year, Egypt has suffered political deadlock between Islamist forces – which, for the most part, support the president – and non-Islamist opposition forces. Morsi narrowly defeated Ahmed Shafiq, ousted president Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister, in Egypt's first-ever free presidential elections one year ago. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/74870.aspx
