Hardcore Ahly fans to attend match against Gouna despite ban Members of Ultras Ahlawi vow to attend team's upcoming game against Gouna on Saturday despite EFA-imposed spectator ban
Members of the Ultras Ahlawi – hardcore fans of Cairo's Ahly football club – said Thursday that they would attend the team's upcoming Egyptian Premier League game against Gouna on Saturday, despite an ongoing crowd ban. The move comes in spite of threats by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) that any team whose supporters broke the ban would forfeit the game. The league's 17th round had been scheduled to begin on Thursday with a match between Zmalek and Ismaily, but the EFA was forced to delay it after hardcore Zamalek fans threatened to attend. Hardcore Ahly fans followed suit, saying they would also attend Friday's game against Gouna. The EFA, however, responded on Wednesday by adjourning the round before fixing a new date the following day. On Thursday, the EFA stated that the team whose supporters broke the crowd ban would forfeit the match in question by a 2-0 margin. The threat, however, failed to deter the Ultras Ahlawy, who insisted on attending Saturday's game. "We will be present at Saturday's match," the group said via Facebook. "Nobody can stop us from attending. Football is for the fans. " Crowds have been barred from attending Egyptian football games since February 2012, when post-match violence between Ahly and Masry fans left more than 70 dead. Several Masry officials were eventually slapped with stiff prison terms for the violence, while dozens of Masry fans were sentenced to death.
