Cameroon draw with DR Congo, Algeria advance in World Cup qualifiers Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are held to goalless draw by DR Congo in world Cup qualifier as Algeria shore up position as Group H leaders with 1-0 away win over Rwanda
Cameroon's poor showing in World Cup qualifiers have continued. One week after their 2-0 loss against minnow Togo in the fourth matchday of World Cup qualifiers, the indomitable Lions were held to a goalless draw by DR Congo on Sunday in Kinshasain Group I's fifth matchday. Despite Sunday's draw, Cameroon kept their hopes of reaching the final phase of World Cup qualifiers alive as they remained second in the group with seven points – two behind leaders Libya, who defeated Togo 2-0 on Friday. The four-time African Champions will find themselves in a must-win situation when they host Libya for the sixth matchday next October if they hope to secure a place in the final World Cup qualifying round. The ten group winners will advance to a two-legged playoff that will determine Africa's five representatives at next year's World Cup finals in Brazil. Earlier in the day, Algeria took one step closer to the final World Cup qualifying round with a 1-0 away win over Rwanda in Group H. Bologna forward Saphir Taïder scored the winner in the 52nd minute, giving his team three precious points in Kigali. Following Sunday's win, Algeria secured their place as Group H leader with 12 points – five clear of second-placed Mali, who will host Benin later on Sunday.
