Egypt's Ismaily scrape through in Confederation Cup after win on penalties
Below-par Ismaily beat Ahli Shandi of Sudan 4-3 on penalties to reach the CAF Confederation Cup last 16 on Friday

A lackluster Ismaily side booked their place in the CAF Confederation Cup round of 16 after defeating Sudan's Ahli Shandi 4-3 on penalties following a 0-0 aggregate draw on Friday.
Ahli Shandi blasted two spot kicks over the bar to gift Ismaily, who failed to create any goal-scoring opportunities in a dull affair, a last-16 ticket. The match was littered with too many mis-placed passes and the hosts were even lucky to keep the score goalless after Ahli Shandi wasted some clear-cut chances in the second half.
ENPPI, the other Egyptian representative in Africa's secondary club competition, will be looking to join Ismaily in the next round when they face South Africa's Supersport on Saturday.
The Confederation Cup has eluded Egyptian clubs since it was introduced in 2004 by merging the African Cup Winners' Cup and the CAF Cup in a single competition.
