Video: Tunisia flag burned by football fans during clashes Tunisia sees second day of clashes between police and football fans, roads closed, more than 20 fans detained
Fans of Tunisian football team CA Bizertin have clashed with police during protests after the Football Association (FA) announced the qualification of Esperance and Club Africain for the final round of the domestic league competition. "Hundreds of Bizertin fans gathered in the middle of the city on Tuesday to express their protest against the competition committee decision. In attempts disperse the crowd, security used teargas bombs," an eye-witness told Reuters. More than 20 fans were reportedly detained during the clashes. Clashes first erupted on Monday after Bizertin fans complained they should qualify for the final round of the competition as they are level on points, 29, with Africain and Esperance at the top of Group A. The supporters believe the FA favoured Club Africain. In the two group competition, four of sixteen teams play in the knock out stage, two from each group. The FA said that Bizertin fixed a match with Olympique du Kef. "Fans blocked Bizerte Bridge road and made a big fire in the streets. Some burnt the Tunisian flag, demanding separation from the country over a football game. This is crazy," another eye-witness told Ahram Online. The club has suspended all football activity at both the domestic and continental level. "It's clear wrongdoing by the FA. We have frozen all activities, including the match with Ahly in the CAF Champions League [round of 16 scheduled for Sunday]," club spokesperson Bassam El-Zawawy told Reuters. ## (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at@AO Sportsand on Facebook atAhramOnlineSports)
