Cairo giants Ahly said on Friday they would appeal a LE 1 million fine imposed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) as their row with the country's governing body grew. Ahly were handed the hefty fine after declining to put on the logo of the EFA's sponsor Vodafone on their kit during last year's Egyptian Super Cup game against ENPPI. "This fine is unfair because the Super Cup regulations do not include any fines. Accordingly, we have decided to file an appeal," Ahly's football director Hadi Khashaba said on the club's official website. Ahly have been at loggerheads with the EFA over sponsorship conflicts. The EFA orders teams playing in domestic cups to put the name of mobile communications company Vodafone on their shirts but Ahly, whose main sponsor Etisalast is a Vodafone rival, object to that. The rules regulating the matter are ambiguous. Ahly have decided to skip this season's Egypt Cup in protest at the EFA's stance.
