Preview: Zamalek not counting on slender first-leg advantage Zamalek are taking nothing for granted as they face DR Congo's Vita Club in the second leg of the African Champions League round of 32 on Saturday
Zamalek will be looking to claim an away victory over Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo rather than merely trying to defend their slender first-leg advantage in Saturday's African Champions League tie, coach Jorvan Vieira said. The Cairo side, a traditional powerhouse in the continent who are chasing their first Champions League title since 2002, could only claim a narrow 1-0 home victory over Vita Club in the first leg of the competition's round of 32. "We came to Congo to win. I'm confident that the players will be able to secure an away victory and qualify for the next round," Brazilian coach Vieira, under whom Zamalek have hugely improved, told the club's official website in Kinshasa. Zamalek have made their best Egyptian Premier League start since winning the last of their 11 titles in 2004, garnering maximum 24 points from eight games as they seek to end a lengthy drought. They are also acclaimed for displaying an attractive brand of football under Vieira, who got the best out of in-form forward Mohamed Ibrahim after the 21-year-old was hardly given a chance to prove his worth under former manager Hassan Shehata. Towering striker Ahmed Gaafar was also given a new lease of life. The Zamalek top scorer scored the only goal in the first leg, his first-time thunderbolt from inside the area leaving the keeper with no chance. "We could have won by a bigger margin in Alexandria but we were unlucky with regard to the chances we had," Vieira added.
