Nigeria has erupted in celebrations after their Super Eagles won the African Cup of Nations. Thousands gathered Sunday night at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos to watch the game on a big screen. The crowd went wild over the game's only goal from Nigeria's Sunday Mba in the first half, throwing anything they could in the air and shouting. The final whistle led to similar exuberance. In a statement after the win, President Goodluck Jonathan, who at one point threatened to bar the national team from competitions after poor play in the 2010 World Cup, congratulated the team and coach Stephen Keshi. The statement urged Nigerians "to imbibe the positive lessons of the Super Eagles' success."
