The Nigerian government has overturned its decision to ban the national team in the wake of their early disqualification from the World Cup. Following the Super Eagles' elimination from the World Cup group stage, Nigerian president Jonathan imposed a two-year ban on the national team from all international competitions. FIFA gave the African nation until Monday to reverse the decision. The Nigerian government eventually complied. "The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on Monday graciously rescinded last Wednesday's decision to withdraw Nigerian national football teams from FIFA/CAF football competitions," A statement on the NFF's site reads. "The decision was made known at the presidential villa on Monday evening as President Jonathan hearkened to the passionate appeals of top officials of the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, other concerned organs of government and well-meaning Nigerians on the matter." Nigeria would have been suspended from all FIFA-related events if the governmental ban hadn't been lifted.
