Thursday 6 December BA Orchestra to perform compositions by Rageh Daoud in Bibliotheca Alexandrina at 8pm Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra will hold a concert with works by contemporary Egyptian composer Rageh Daoud. The concert will include a compilation of Daoud's film scores. The same concert will be repeated in Cairo. The ensemble's debut brings together the Arab world's most talented musicians for this production. 2 Hussein El Me'mar st. off Mahmoud Bassiouni st., beside Townhouse Gallery Christmas Carols at Manasterly Palace at 8pm Soloists from the Republic of Poland will perform carols and Christmas songs to piano accompaniment. Qasr Al-Shamee St., Al-Fakhareen (behind the Hanging Church and the Amr Mosque), Cairo Opening of Photography exhibition 'Mono' in Darb 1718 at 7pm The Cairo Camera Club presents its exhibition 'Mono' signifying solitude. Qasr Al-Shamee St., Al-Fakhareen (behind the Hanging Church and the Amr Mosque), Cairo Alexandria Street Project: Cairo Remix in 100 Copies Music Space at 8pm The project, based in Alexandria, records sounds, video of interviews and personal archives to create a sonic map of the city streets – mixed with electro music. 22 Talaat Harb Street, Downtown, Cairo Cairo Symphony Orchestra at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm Cairo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nader Abbassi will perform works by Prokoflex, Rachmaninov and Borodin. The concert will also include Abbassi's Dance for Peace. Soloists of the evening are Saber Abd Elsattar on Qanoun and Mohamed Shams on Piano. Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo Sunday 9 December Launch of Al-Ahram Arts Centre and Art Gallery in Al-Ahram Building at 7pm Al-Ahram organisation launches its new art centre with an inaugural exhibition entitled 'A Century of Egyptian Art'. The exhibition will display some of the art works acquired by Al-Ahram for over half a century during which art was integrated in Al-Ahram and its staff. Many of the paintings decorate Al-Ahram corridors, as well as rooms of senior editors. The exhibition will stay on for three months and is open and free for the public. Al-Ahram New Building, Galaa Street, Ground Floor, Cairo Egyptian Sinfonietta's inaugural concert at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm Operating under the Egyptian Philharmonic Society, the Egyptian Sinfonietta, a newly formed chamber orchestra will give its inaugural concert under the baton of its founder Ahmed El-Saedi. The concert is the first of six in this season and will include compositions by Mozart. Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo "On Studio Photography" exhibition in Viennoise Studio The exhibition dives into discovering the contemporary practices of studio photography by looking at selected historical examples. Visitors can participate in image production through the Living Studio—a working photography studio where each photographer and artist will recreate their own practice. The artwork produced will later be showcased at the end of the exhibition. The exhibition is curated by Heba Farid and Paul Geday and is part of the Photographic Memory of Egypt project by Cultnat. Read morehere. 7 Champollion Street, Downtown, Cairo "Ashaby" exhibition by Hani Rashed in Mashrabia Gallery Hani Rashed brings forward a new exhibition after he rid himself of his old works, which according to the artist were characterised by self-censorship and fear.
