VIDEO: Five-star Ismaily advance in Arab Champions League Ismaily reach the Arab Champions League's round of 16 after crushing Sudanese side El-Khartoum on Sunday at Borg El-Arab stadium in Alexandria
Ismaily, Egypt's sole representative in Arab Champions League, thrashed Sudanese side El-Khartoum 5-0 in the second leg of the competition's round of 32 on Sunday in Alexandria to go through. The costal side managed to overturn a 3-1defeat in last week's first-leg in Khartoum to qualify for the round of 16 with a 6-3 aggregate win. Ismaily, who will also play in the African Confederation Cup amid uncertainty over the fate of domestic football, needed 20 minutes to gain the upper hand after scoring three goals. Striker Ahmed Ali opened the scoring after two minutes, John Antwi doubled the lead on 16 minute and Ahmed Khairy added a third four minutes later. Khairy was on target again with seven minutes remaining before Ali wrapped up the victory in stoppage time as Ismaily ran riot. The match was played at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium behind closed doors due to lingering security concerns in Egypt, which forced the indefinite suspension of domestic football following February's Port Said disaster.
