Culture Events: Picks for the Weekend
This weekend is full of culture events in Cairo and Alexandria. The Ahram Online arts and culture team recommend their favourites for you, Thursday through Friday (22-25 November)

Thursday 22 November
"Bullhead" screening in El-Cabina at 7pm
As part of the Panorama of European cinema's selection for Alexandria, El-Cabina will be playing 'Bullhead' by Jacques Audiard. The film follows domineering cattle farmer Jacky Vanmarsenille (Matthias Schoenaerts). Jacky, constantly pumped on steroids and hormones, initiates a shady deal with a notorious mafioso meat trader. When an investigating federal agent is assassinated and a woman from his traumatic past resurfaces, Jacky must confront his demons and face the far-reaching consequences of his decisions. Weam Ismail music night in Sufi Bookstore at 8pm
The young talented musician takes his guitar and afro to Sufi for a night of reggae originals.

Fayrouz Karawya in El-Geneina Theatre at 8.30pm
The Port Said-born artist started singing as a child in her school's choir and kept performing through theatre and films. Her first album, "Barra Menny," was released in 2012.

Magic Flute at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm
On four consecutive evenings, from 20 to 23 November, the Cairo Opera Company and Cairo Opera Orchestra conducted by Nayer Nagui and Cairo Opera Choir with Aldo Magnato as choir master, performs Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. The opera is directed by Hisham El-Tally.

Fathy Salama & Sharqiat in the Cairo Opera House at 8pm

Chamber Music at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm
Mohamad Hamdy Quartet will perform works by Mozart, Byrd, Rossini, Rachmaninoff, and others. The quartet consists of Mohamad Hamdy, Raymond Fawzy, Mostafa Saeed,and Karim Aatef. The group will be joined occasionally by Marwa Mokhta, Mohamed Mostafa, Belal Hisham, Mostafa Mahmoud and Sahar Ibrahim.

Darwasha band live in Jesuites Theater at 8.30pm
The progressive rock project Darwasha mixes rock, metal and oriental sounds, creating a sound uniquely theirs. The band includes Mohamed Darwish on guitar, Ahmed El Azazi on drums, Shady El-Husseiny on melodica, Mohamed Faisal on bass, Omar Zanaty on percussion and Ahmed Omran on oud. Guest appearances for the concert will include Salam Yosry, Sherine Abdou, and Safi El-Din.

Alwan w Awtar 'No Walls' Festival 12pm in Mokkattam

"Videograms of a Revolution" screening in Beirut at 7pm
Beirut, the newly opened art space, is hosting 'Videograms of a Revolution' by Haron Farocki, followed by a talk between Philip Rizk, an independent filmmaker and member of Mosireen, and Ahmed Shokr, a Middle-East History doctoral candidate in New York University. The screening is part of PhotoCairo 5.

"Vivid Memory" by Wael Darwish in Safarkhan Gallery
"Vivid Memory" explores the effects on human memory and the psyche of experiencing long periods of continuous change, inconsistency and suppressed action. The artist seeks to mirror the absence of transparency in society alongside the emerging political and social situation with deep, often suppressed, human emotion. The paintings use flat solid colours and mixed media to portray these complex feelings. Read our review here.

The newly opened art space in Beirut is hosting this Haron Farocki film, followed by a talk between labour journalist Jano Charbel and political activist Shahir George Ishaq, moderated by Lina Attalah, editor in chief of Egypt Independent. The screening is part of PhotoCairo 5.
11 Road 12 Mahmoud Sedky Street, Agouza, Giza
The Non-Egyptian Restaurant in Artellewa from 5pm
Spanish artist, Asuncion Molinos Gordo, turns an exhibition space into an actual restaurant serving food as an installation to raise questions on food sovereignty and security in Egypt. Gordo also addresses issues of decaying agricultural land to urban landscapes – along with other food related issues by changing the way the food is made in the restaurant every week. "On Studio Photography" exhibition in Viennoise Studio
The exhibition dives into discovering the contemporary practices of studio photography by looking at selected historical examples. Visitors can participate in image production through the Living Studio; a working photography studio where each photographer and artist will recreate their own practice. The artwork produced will later be showcased at the end of the exhibition. The exhibition is curated by Heba Farid and Paul Geday and is part of the Photographic Memory of Egypt project by Cultnat. "Ashaby" exhibition by Hani Rashed in Mashrabia Gallery
Hani Rashed brings forward a new exhibition after he rid himself of his old works, which according to the artist were characterised by self-censorship and fear. His new work focuses on the protester in Tahrir Square, using the styles of comics and internet visuals.
