Thursday 15 November Nagham Band in Sufi Bookstore at 8pm Nagham Saleh on vocals along with her band members sing Sheikh Imam and Sayyid Darwish songs, reviving the social messages of the music that are still relevant today. 12 Sayed El-Bakry Street, Zamalek, Cairo Rima Khacheich concert in El-Geneina Theatre at 8.30pm Rima Khacheich, born into South Lebanon, studied classical Arabic music since the age of nine. Having performed in several concerts in Egypt and abroad, Khacheich gained international repute and admiration for performing complex Arabic songs. Al-Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo PhotoCairo5 exhibition in multiple venues Contemporary art exhibition by several artists, PhotoCairo5 takes the theme of questioning whether artists in Egypt are ready to reflect on the revolution and whether art has a role in discussion and provocation of the movement of people. Contemporary Image Collective, 22 Abdel-Khalek Tharwat Street, Downtown Cairo, 4th Floor Townhouse Gallery Factory Space, 10 Nabrawy Street, off Champollion Street, Downtown Cairo Mahmoud Basiouny Street Shop Front, Downtown Cairo "Vivid Memory" by Wael Darwish in Safarkhan Gallery "Vivid Memory" explores the effects on human memory and the psyche of experiencing long periods of continuous change, inconsistency and suppressed action. The artist seeks to mirror the absence of transparency in society alongside the emerging political and social situation with deep, often suppressed, human emotion. The paintings use flat solid colours and mixed media to portray these complex feelings. Read more here. 11 Brazil Street, Zamalek, Cairo Friday 16 November Art Beat Festival in Art Café, Maadi at 1pm The festival combines art workshops, group canvas painting, short film screenings between 1-6pm and ends on a group music jam led by Like Jelly Band from 6-9pm. The event is hosted by non-governmental organisation CISV Egypt to fundraise for their winter project in Alexandria, in cooperation with the Gudran Association for Arts and Development, where they will renovate an apartment to serve as a hub for independent cinema. 62, Road 13. intersecting with Road 85, Maadi, Cairo El-Raseef Festival in Horreya Square, Maadi at 3pm Another festival in Maadi, organised by the crew behind "El-Raseef" pocket publication on social development and culture. The event brings together local artisans and entrepreneurs selling their products as well as musical performances. Today, Mahfaza, Alwan and Cairokee bands will perform in the evening. Horreya Square, Maadi, Cairo Sahara Band at the Swiss Club at 6pm One of the most established Rai music bands in Egypt, Sahara, mix Bedouin instruments with Latin, jazz and oriental sounds. 90 Hegaz Street, off Sudan Street, Kit Kat, Imbaba, Giza "Spirited Away" animation film screening in Sufi Bookstore at 7pm This 2001 Japanese animation revolves around a 10-year-old girl with a wild imagination who wanders into a world ruled gods, witches and monsters. 12 Sayed El-Bakry Street, Zamalek, Cairo Saturday 17 November PhotoCairo5 Symposium in Goethe Institut at 10.30am The all-day event will feature speakers, discussions and discourse on key points of the project, mainly asking the question whether it is "too soon" to make art after a social and political movement. The symposium examines the link between the revolutionary moment and the artistic one. Contributors to the event include Mia Jankowicz, Angela Harutyunyan, Malak Helmy, Noura Seif, Mahmoud Tarek, Sarah Samy, Sama Waly, Basim Magdy, Jasmina Metwaly, May Al-Ibrashi and Hassan Khan.Read morehere. 5 El-Bostan Street, Downtown, Cairo El-Raseef Festival in Horreya Square, Maadi at 3pm The festival in Maadi is organised by the crew behind "El-Raseef" pocket publication on social development and culture. The event brings together local artisans and entrepreneurs selling their products as well as musical performances. Today, an Open Mic will be hosted followed by a Capoeira Brazilian dance and martial arts performer. Like Jelly and the Percussion Show will perform in the evening. Horreya Square, Maadi, Cairo Fayrouz Karawya in El-Geneina Theatre at 8.30pm The Port Said born artist started singing as a child in her school's choir and kept performing through theatre and films. Her first album, "Barra Menny," was released in 2012. Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo Ahmed Basiony exhibition in several venues Close friend and project curator Shady El-Noshokaty shows installations of Ahmed Basiony's work at several venues across Cairo to commemorate the pioneering artist who was shot dead on 28 January 2011 during protests at the onset of the 2011 revolution. Read more on Artellewa here. 19 Mohamed Ali El-Eseary Street, Ard El-Lewa, Giza, Cairo "Sex Talk" documentary film screening in the Netherlands-Flemish Institute at 7pm The 60-minute film focuses on sexuality within marriage based on the accounts of a number of males and females, along with sexual health professionals and medical doctors. There will be a discussion run by director Amr Bayoumi after the film. 1 Mahmoud Azmy Street, Zamalek, Cairo "Ashaby" exhibition by Hani Rashed in Mashrabia Gallery Hani Rashed brings forward a new exhibition after he rid himself of his old works, which according to the artist were characterised by self-censorship and fear. His new work focuses on the protester in Tahrir Square, using the styles of comics and internet visuals. 8 Champollion Street, Downtown, Cairo "Domestic Relations: The Couch" exhibition by Eman Abdou in 6 Contemporary Arts Eman Abdou explores the relationships between citizens and the political environment in which some passively exist in a series of highly ironic paintings, sometimes bright and sometimes monochromatic.
