Port Said massacre trial adjourned until 19 November Judge adjourns trial of 73 defendants in Port Said massacre case to allow more time for defence lawyers to prepare their evidence
A court in Cairo on Wednesday adjourned until 19 November the trial of 73 defendants accused of being responsible for the Port Said massacre. More than 70 Ahly fans were killed on 1 February when they were attacked by Masry supporters following an ill-tempered league match in Port Said. Most of the defendants are natives of Port Said. Nine senior police officers are among the defendants and lax security was largely blamed for the violence. The trial was adjourned to allow more time for defence lawyers to prepare their case. Traffic jams caused by themetro strike in Cairo caused some defence lawyers to miss the session. The court said daily sessions dedicated to hearing the defence would be held until 22 November. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/58088.aspx
