A picture of Barcelona star Lionel Messi with a gun pointing to his head in Saudi Arabia has led to sarcastic comments by the player's fans.
The Argentinean football team arrived in the Gulf country Monday night to play a friendly against the national team, causing chaos at King Khaled International AirPort in Riyadh.
“Despite the huge police presence and airport security and five security checkpoints along roads leading to the airport, Messi fans managed to get into the airport,” a Saudi newspaper reported Tuesday.##
Many European newspapers have mocked the picture. The headline of Spain's Sports.es was “Sultan Messi.”
“It's not a warm welcome. It's scary to death” reads a comment on Twitter about the picture while another user wrote “Believe me Saudi people, if Messi got hurt this would cost you much of your oil.”
Thousands of Messi's fans have made jokes about the pictures on the internet and the saga is still ongoing.##
