Art Alert: 'Archives of an Artist' seminar highlights young Egyptian artists
A seminar at the Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre will showcase promising young Egyptian artists on Tuesday

A new generation of Egyptian artists is currently gaining attention in the region and abroad, exhibiting in galleries and art festivals across the globe. This new movement puts forward contemporary art that is forceful and conceptual, exploring question of identity and political tensions in their work.
The Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre in Cairo, under the auspices of head of the Fine Arts Sector Salah El-Meleegy, announced the inauguration of a seminar entitled "Archives of an Artist", dedicated to showcasing young Egyptian artists and their international art projects.
The seminar aims to disseminate information and provide insight into the Egyptian youth art movement. The project will kick off with a seminar presenting young artist Haytham Nawar on Tuesday 23 October.
Visual artist Nawar, 34, shuffles between Egypt, the United States, and Switzerland. Like many of the artists in his generation, Nawar is a multidisciplinary artist who dabbles in drawing, printmaking, installations, video and photography. His work has traveled the globe, from China to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, France, and Germany. Nawar is currently a PhD Candidate at the Planetary Collegium, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Plymouth in England.
"Archives of an Artist" is the brainchild of artist Ibrahim Saad, who expressed that the initiative is essentially a discussion circle that presents young artists who have taken substantial steps in their art careers, yielding extraordinary artwork that is exhibited both locally and globally.
Egyptian artwork constantly travels abroad, and young artists are increasingly showcasing their works across borders. This month, an exhibition dubbed "Identity" opens in Hamburg, Germany, featuring three budding Egyptian artists: Hany Rashed, Shayma Kamel and Ali Abdel Mohsen.On 2 November, Haytham Nawar participates in a collective exhibition curated by Aida Eltorie entitled “Does Europe Exist? Citizen Middle East” which will take place in at the Artos Foundation in Cyprus.
