Egyptian cinemas to stop screening foreign films during Adha feast In hopes of promoting local film industry, Egypt's Chamber of Cinema announces plans to temporarily halt screenings of foreign films during upcoming holidays
The Egyptian Chamber of Cinemas has decided to halt screenings of all foreign films at movie theatres countrywide during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holidays in an effort to protect the local film industry, chamber head Sayid Fathi announced on Tuesday. Among the seven films that will be screened in Egypt during the upcoming holidays are 'Red Line,' starring Mostafa Kamar, and 'Bertita,' starring Kenda Aloush. Fathi told Al-Ahram's Arabic-language news website that the decision not to show foreign films during the holidays was nothing new, but that this year it would actually be implemented due to recent losses suffered by the local film industry as a result of ongoing political turbulence. He went on to note that cinemas that generally only screened foreign films would be allowed to show both Arabic and foreign films together during the Eid Al-Adha, while foreign films currently featuring at cinemas would be allowed to continue for the next ten days before resuming after the holidays. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/55759.aspx
