Egyptian state TV set for major changes: Information Minister New media guidelines to be imposed on Egyptian state TV network, according to information minister
Egyptian state television is set for a major shakeup, according to Information Minister Salah Abdel-Maksoud. “The media should be professional and give a platform to diverse opinions,” Abdel-Maksoud told the state news agency, MENA. Abdel-Maksoud said state television would re-establish its prominent position among television networks. The minister will form a committee, comprised of prominent media figures based inside and outside the state television network, to write a new set of new media guidelines. Moreover, Abdel-Maksoud said he would ensure the media guidelines prevent the Cabinet and the People's Assemblyfrom interfering with the media laws. Abdel-Maksoud is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and was recently appointed to his position as information minister by Prime Minister Hisham Qandil.
