Zamalek en route to Ghana for CAF clash with Chelsea Whites' squad flies to Ghana Thursday morning in advance of Saturday's group-stage CAF Champions League match with Chelsea
The Zamalek squad flew to Ghana on Thursday morning to face Chelsea in a 7 July CAF Champions League group-stage match. "Zamalek's director went to Cairo airport on Thursday to take care of the team's travel documents before making the trip to Ghana," read a statement on the White's official website. "Coach Hassan Shehata and his assistant Ismail Yousif are in the VIP lounge awaiting the travel papers," the statement added. The Cairo giants are scheduled to face off against Ghanaian champions Chelsea in the group stage of the CAF Champions League on 7 July. Both teams were drawn up in Group B, along with archrivals Ahly and TP Mazembe of DR Congo, the latter of whom are slated to meet on Sunday in Cairo. Chelsea coach Hans van der Pluijm said his team does "not fear Africa's big guns," as they wrap up preparations for Saturday's opening Champions League group-stage game against Egypt's Zamalek. "They are all former champions and we have a lot of respect for them, but we all got to this stage on merit, so we'll see how it goes from now on," Van der Pluijm told CAF's official website. "Big names don't win football matches, big hearts do; we'll give it our best shot. Many people wrote us off after being held at home by Coton Sport, and look what happened in Cameroon," he added.
