Ivorian striker Konan: I'm thrilled to join Ahly Cairo Giants newest transfer Ousso Konan admits feeling pressure to perform in his 'dream' team, recognises challenges in upcoming CAF group stage
Ahly's latest addition Ivorian striker Ousso Konan said, on the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) official website Wednesday, that he is "thrilled to be joining one of Africa's biggest clubs" following his recent transfer to the Egyptian Champions. "It's a great feeling. I feel proud that I'll be playing alongside the brilliant stars that I always enjoyed watching," Konan said, adding that his teammates had given him a "very warm welcome." Konan spoke about joining the club with mixed feelings of happiness, pride and pressure: "There is a very big responsibility on me to prove that I deserve such a move and that I deserve to play for a team like Ahly." Coach Hossam El-Badry has reportedly kept a close eye on the Ivorian player over the course of the season. "He said he'll rely on me in attack," said Konan, "I hope to prove him right. I still have a lot of hard work to do to be in top form for my new team." A Tough draw in CAF Champions League The Ivorian also spoke about the team's preparation for the CAF Champions League group stage which will kick off this weekend with matches against DR Congo's TP Mazembe, rivals Zamalek and Ghana's Berekum Chelsea. “It's going to be a very tough game as TP Mazembe is a good team and have some very talented and well known players. Ahly is still in the pre-season phase and are yet to gain full game fitness," Konan explained, "The start of the competition [mini-league phase] is always difficult because we have got to win, to start our campaign to reach the semi finals.” Konan also added that their grouping is particularly difficult as it includes three of the continent's biggest teams: Ahly, Zamalek and Mazembe. In addition Berekum Chelsea has proved to be a challenge in previous rounds. "We will do our best to qualify for the semi-final as we look to win all our games, starting next week," he concluded.
