Zamalek hitman Amr Zaki will join the Egypt under-23 squad Monday morning before they travel to Saudi Arabia for a Arab Cup friendly tournament amid preparations for the 2012 London Olympics in July.
“I am so proud to be named in the junior national team for the Olympics as it is a big championship and playing in it is an honour for any player,” Zaki was quoted saying on Zamalek's official website.
Manager Hani Ramzy selected 29-year-old Zaki as one among three overage players aimed to boost the u-23 team with his experience.
Zaki started his professional career with El-Mansoura in 2003 before joining ENPPI in 2005. He played with Lokomotiv Moscow before joining Zamalek in 2006.
Zaki also starred with Premier League side Wigan Athletic in a one-year loan deal in the 2008-2009 season in which he scored 10 goals in 29 matches. He also has six caps with Hull City in 2010.
The Pharaohs long-time striker, Zaki joined Egypt in 2004 scoring 29 goals in 58 matches.
The Young Pharaohs, who returned to the most prestigious tournament after an absence of 20 years, are tied with Brazil in the same group that also contains Belarus and New Zealand.
