Unofficial results collated from polling stations announcements throughout Thursday night, showed that the elections runoff will be between the Muslim Brotherhood candidateMohamed Mursiand Mubarak's last prime ministerAhmed Shafiq. Meanwhile, supporters ofHamdeen Sabbahi, who received 5 per cent less votes than Shafiq in the preliminary polls, hope that the SPEC will announce that the Nasserist contender is in second place. Sabbahi among other presidential candidates have submitted complaints to the SPEC, citing violations in the electoral process. If the official results align with the preliminary outcome, Egyptians will choose between an Islamist and a former regime figurein a runoff on 16 and 17 June.
