Egypt's Port Said-based club Masry announced on Sunday renewing the contract of the team's coach Ali Maher for another season. Maher, 47, took the charge of the coastal club earlier in September, replacing coach Tarek El-Ashri. According to Masry's official Facebook page, Maher signed the new contract late on Saturday to remain in his post in the new season 2021/2022. Maher, a former Ahly star, quickly proved his worth at Masry last season, helping the team finish sixth at the Egyptian Premier League despite of struggling at the relegation zone upon his appointment. Maher's success continued this season after guiding the team to ensure a place in the CAF Confederation Cup next season. Masry are now fifth in the league table with two rounds to spare in the domestic competition. Maher started his managerial career in 2017 with Alassiouty FC and secured impressive results, most notably eliminating Ahly from the Egypt Cup in his first season. He went on to coach Smouha and Enppi. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.)
